Hi I’m Damian. I’m a bartender here at Liquid Kitty in West LA California. We’re gonna talk a little about the Tequila Sunrise. There’s a lot of stories behind the tequila sunrise, all very vague. But I do recall a guy named Gene Sulit I believe he was in Texas when he created it in the ‘3-s or ‘40s. It’s gone through a lot of variations since then. Ingredients have changed, times have changed. The story that I like is that in 1972, and Rolling Stone kicking off their show in the New York City, there were 2 bartenders at a private event before the first show. They wanted to create a drink for Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and they came up with the variations of tequila sunrise.
[Mick Jagger had one of the cocktails, and liked it. They ordered them all across America , even dubbing the tour itself. Their “cocaine and tequila sunrise tour’.]
They used the old recipe, combined with some new ingredients, got rid of the old crazy stuff like some bitters they used in it. They came up with a much simpler OJ tequila sunrise combination and I loved what they made for the Rolling stones.
So we’ll just take an ounce glass, fill with ice. We’re gonna do about an ounce and a hald]f. Here at liquid kitty we pour a little bit heavy so closer to 2 ounces of tequila. We’ll gonna use we;ll today.
[2 oz of Tequila]
[3 oz of orange juice]
And then just any sold tandard of orange juice. It’s about twice as much orange juice than tequila. And then what makes it sunrise is the Grenadine. We’ll just put some Grenadine at the top.

And then let it sink. That gives it the sunrise effect. Add cherry on top and a straw. You can see it looks like a sunrise. Your rolling stone tequila sunrise.
