Summer Cocktails: Southside Cocktail | Pottery Barn

Refreshing summer cocktails are an important part of the menu when entertaining and the southside cocktail is one of them. Featuring fresh citrus flavors, this is a great drink for summer parties.

To make the southside cocktail, start with fresh lime juice. It’s a good idea to begin with lower price point ingredients so if you make a mistake you can simply start over. Pour three quarters of an ounce of lime juice in the cocktail shaker and an equal amount of simple syrup. While making summer cocktails, you’ll be using simple syrup a lot so it’s a good idea to make your own at home. Mix equal parts granulated sugar with equal parts water to make simple syrup at home.

The next ingredient of the southside cocktail is mint. You can use about five to six leaves depending on the size of the leaves. To keep the mint fresh throughout your party, store the herb upside down in ice water. Next, lightly press the leaves with a muddler to extract the flavor.

For this cocktail, we’ve chosen Tanqueray 10 gin as fresh citrus is used in the distillation process. The citrus undertone is perfect for summer cocktails. We’ll need an ounce and a half of the gin for this cocktail recipe. Fill a slim highball glass with ice. Shake all the ingredients for a short while, strain and pour over the ice. To make large batches of this cocktail, simply multiply the ingredients by the number of drinks you want to serve. Finally, top off the glass with soda water to add effervesce. Uses chilled soda water and pour it down a cocktail spoon and gently stir the drink.

For the garnish, add two sprigs of mint and a lime peel. Use a vegetable peeler to slice the peel and gently pinch it to extract the oils. Finally, twist and perch over the glass.
