Hi My name’s Damian. I’m a bartender here at Liquid Kitty in West LA California. And today we’re gonna talk a little bit about Screwdriver. Screwdriver is a simple old drink with an interesting old history. Lore has it that it started in the 30’s in the aviation community when aviation became more and more popular. Pilots weren’t allowed to drink So what they did is they came up with a drink which looks like orange juice but laced with vodka. And they were able to fly and no one knew they were drinking.
[This drink got its name because pilots secretly added vodka to small cans of orange juice and stirred the mixture with their screwdrivers.]
I don’t recommend that though. It’s a very simple drink. You take a Collins glass, fill it with ice. Take your vodka, whatever vodka you like. Today we use Ketel One.
About an ounce and a half [1 ½ oz of vodka] Perfect pour, I ran out of vodka. That’s awesome.
And then you just fill the rest of the glass with OJ [1 oz of orange juice]
And that’s a screwdriver. The interesting thing about screwdriver, there’s a million variations. You can add southern comfort to it and it becomes a comfortable screw. You can add galliano to it and it becomes a harvey wall banger. There’s all kinds of variations to screwdrivers, I don’t want to go through them all. Just google screwdriver and you get tons of different ones. But that’s your screwdriver. Very simple drink of vodka.
